Warning day in Germany: Storms, fires & Co. - NINA should support the population
The population should be sensitized and get to know the processes in order to be able to correctly perceive and classify the warning messages in an emergency, said the
Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster
Aid (BBK) in Bonn.

Warning day in Germany: BBK app NINA - this is how the nationwide warning system works
The app can locate the smartphone via a location check in order to then distribute appropriate warnings.
You can also subscribe to other locations for which you want to be kept up to date.
Furthermore, users can decide whether they want to be informed only in absolute emergencies or also about weather conditions such as squalls.
As with the
Corona app of
the
Robert Koch Institute, the
data exchange should
only take place decentrally, i.e. between the respective smartphones, and not be collected comprehensively.

Warning day in Germany: "Everyone should take the opportunity to carry the quick warning in their pocket"
“On the
warning day
, we consciously go to the
limits of
the warning systems.
We have also seen a very strong increase in the
warning app over
the past few months
. ”The app is currently being downloaded around 7.6 in
Germany
.
In March it was 6.1 million.
This means that almost one in ten of the population in
Germany is
using the app.
BBK President Christoph Unger
recently praised an increase of 25 percent in the last few months, “Nevertheless, it can only be a start.
Everyone should take the opportunity to carry the quick 'warning in their pocket' with them in order to protect themselves and others effectively. ”The
warning day
should now be used to win over other app users.
Incidentally,
NINA
is the only app in
Germany
that applies its warnings to the whole of Germany.
The comparable program
KATWARN
is
available
in many regions of
Germany
, but not completely nationwide.
Both
warning apps
are available in the relevant app stores and can be downloaded free of charge.
