2020-09-10T15:46:59.080Z

The Swiss won the 12th stage of the Tour alone this Thursday in Sarran. Out of time, then unlucky, Julian Alaphilippe tried to shine.

Special Envoy to Sarran,

The stat: 2012

The first victory of Swiss Marc Hirschi (Sunweb) on the Tour.

Placed in Nice (2nd of the 2nd stage), sparkling during the 9th stage (80 km breakaway, before finishing 3rd in the sprint), Hirschi took down with great mastery a splendid victory at 22, during his first big tower.

The revelation of this Tour.

One of the talents of the new generation, giving Sarran (260 inhabitants) to Switzerland his first victory on the Tour since the prologue in Liège in 2012.

The breakaway

Started from the 8th km by Luis Leon Sanchez (Astana), Imanol Erviti (Movistar) and Nils Politt (Israel Start Up Nation), joined by Kasper Asgreen (Deceuninck-Quick Step), Mathieu Burgaudeau (Total Direct Energie) and Maximilian Walscheild ( NTT), the leading men never had enough air to let them think that the breakaway could be completed.

The peloton kept them on a leash before joining them in the Croix du Pey hill, the penultimate difficulty of the day.

Six riders, including three members of Sunweb (Marc Hirschi, Soren Kragh Andersen, Tiesj Benoot) and Quentin Pacher (B&B Hôtels-Vital Concept) taking over, before the attack of the Swiss at 28 km from the finish.

The phrase

“I had the impression that my bike was no longer moving but it was I who was no longer moving”.

Signed Julian Alaphilippe who has talked about him again.

After the work of Bob Jungels, launched by Dries Devenyns, Julian Alaphilippe set off on the hunt behind Marc Hirschi in the spectacular Suc au May (3.3 km at 7.7%) which kept all its promises.

At the wrong time.

He tried his luck again 4.5 km from the finish, before appearing to have mechanical problems (finally 11th at 1'48 '').

The number: 2

Pierre Rolland (after Bryan Coquard 3rd in the 7th stage) won 2nd place on the stage, giving B&B hotels-Virtual Concept a second podium.

The passage through Saint-Léonard-de-Noblat, at the 114th km, was marked by the town's homage to its legend, Raymond Poulidor, who died last November.

The management of the Tour was to flower the tomb of "the eternal second."

Thought for Raymond.
