BMW has just made its main plant in Munich fit for the fully electric i4.

Now the group has a big surprise ready for the four-door coupé.

  • BMW

    boss

    Oliver Zipse

makes the plants fit for the future.

  • In the future, on a production line, all types of drives

    off the assembly line

    running.

  • In

    Munich

, the group wants to produce the

    i4

and a new model that has not yet been announced.

Munich - The Munich car maker

BMW

is planning a successor to the

4 Series Gran Coupé

.

It will be based on the body shape of the fully electric

Concept i4

and come onto the market with internal combustion engines, explained a

BMW

spokesman when asked by Merkur.de.

However, the

BMW

spokesman left

a specific start date for the successor to the 4 Series Gran Coupé

open.

It was "still too early" for that, they said.

BMW

had not yet made a public statement on a possible successor to the four-door coupe.

The 4 Series Gran Coupé is currently being built at the Dingolfing plant.

BMW has converted the main plant in Munich for the start of series production of the i4

According to the plans, the all-electric

i4

will

roll

off the assembly line at the main plant in

Munich

from November 2021

.

Due to the higher weight, the group converted the systems accordingly during the summer break that ended on Monday (September 7th).

Adjustments were particularly necessary in the transport systems.

While a 3 Series

BMW

weighs between 1400 and 1800 kilos, depending on the engine and equipment, the fully electric i4 weighs a good two tons.

This is mainly due to the high-voltage battery.

The energy storage alone weighs around 550 kilos.

Most of the old transport systems in the main plant therefore had to be replaced.

BMW: All types of drive on one production line

In order to be able to react flexibly to demand,

BMW

wants to be able

to produce all types of drive on one line, regardless of whether it is gasoline, diesel, hybrid or fully electric vehicles.

BMW presented

the near-series

Concept i4

last March.

It is to be equipped with an electric motor with up to 530 hp and sprint from zero to 100 kilometers in four seconds.

The unit would thus correspond to the performance of a current V8 engine.

By using only green electricity, we will reduce the CO2 emissions from the production of 5th-generation battery cells by around 10 million tonnes by 2030!

In addition, the group promises

a range of up to 600 kilometers

for the

Concept i4

, a slightly curved display for the speedometer, navigation system and vehicle operation, as well as a continuous glass roof.

At the possible price,

BMW

has been

keeping a

low profile

so far.

The current 4 Series Gran Coupé with 326 hp currently comes to around 56,500 euros - without extras.

Similar to

Volkswagen

or

Mercedes-Benz

,

BMW

is also preparing

for a profound restructuring of the industry towards e-mobility.

Already in 2025, one in three will

BMW

be a Stromer or hybrid, had

BMW

boss

Oliver Zipse

at the start of mass production of e-drives in mid-July

BMW

in -Werk

Dingolfing

announced.

The new fully electric ID.3 from VW did not go down well with the trade press - Elon Musk was also not very enthusiastic.
