Update from September 10, 1:08 p.m

.: On September 9, Austria recorded the strongest increase in

new infections *

with the

Sars-CoV-2 virus *

since March.

This emerges from the corona dashboard of the Austrian Ministry of Health.

As the Austrian Ministry of the Interior under

Chancellor Sebastian Kurz announced

, there were

664

new corona cases - more than half of them in the federal capital

Vienna

.

Coronavirus in Austria: Bitter decision on ski areas has been made - the next region is threatened with tightening

Update from September 9th, 11.12 a.m.:

On the

newly introduced Corona traffic light

in

Austria

, four regions are currently on yellow

, i.e.

the second highest of four warning levels.

Soon there could be more.

The so-called Corona Commission will

meet

again

on Thursday in

Vienna

.

In the run-up to the meeting, a dispute about the future classification has broken out.

Experts were concerned about the development, "especially in the cities," it says in the

news page Oe24.at

.

The

color of Vienna

could

soon be darker

at the Corona traffic light

, it is said.

According to experts, at least ten districts should be switched to yellow.

Some city councilors are said to be calling for

Vienna to be completely orange.

But one does not want to risk a "new party-political clinch", it says in the report.

Meanwhile, the first case of African swine fever has been confirmed in Germany.

Update from September 8th, 6.15 p.m.:

In the

coronavirus pandemic

*,

Ischgl was

not well known

as a

corona hotspot

throughout Europe

.

The

focus was on the

Mecca of many winter sports and

après-ski fans from Germany

.

With a view to the coming ski season, which

usually begins in October

on the

glaciers in Tyrol

, the question

remains

what is possible.

And what not.

The

Austrian Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP)

now provided the first answers

during a visit abroad in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Corona pandemic in Austria: Sebastian Kurz wants to keep ski areas between Vorarlberg and Tyrol open

"We have to try to lead as normal a life as possible in all areas of our life", said Kurz according to the Austria Press Agency (APA): "Winter tourism and skiing will be possible."

According to the Austrian head of government,

tourism is a major

economic factor in Austria

and is even more important in some federal states: "This is about a lot of jobs."

They will “do everything” so that

skiing

with a view to

Corona

will be “safely possible” this year.

With one caveat, however:

Aprés-ski

will “not be available like this” in the coming season, continued the Chancellor from

Vienna

St. Anton, Ischgl, Sölden

- well-known ski areas between

Arlberg

and

Ötztal

usually attract many thousands of après-ski fans and winter sports tourists from

Germany

every year precisely because of this benefit.

Corona virus in Austria: new corona infections are increasing rapidly - Anschober announces analysis

Update September 8, 17:45:

The

Corona infections in Austria

rising daily: According to statistics from the Austrian Ministry of Health came to early Tuesday evening, Booth 17:00,

within 24 hours 525 new coronavirus cases

in the Alpine republic should - at least the ones were reported.

According to the news portal oe24.at,

Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Die Grünen) has

now announced an analysis of the latest peak in the number of infections.

The question to be clarified is whether it is an "explainable peak - after longer stability - or a rising trend".

Corona pandemic in Austria: Chancellor Sebastian Kurz - "Please don't throw away your mask"

First report from September 8th:

Austria

seemed

to get

the

corona pandemic

under control.

As a reaction to the falling number of cases,

Germany's

southernmost neighbor relaxed

accordingly after the spring.

For example, the mandatory wearing of

mouth and nose protection has

largely been abolished.

In

June, however,

Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz

asked “please don't throw the mask away”, because it will still be needed.

The

ÖVP politician

should be proved right.

Since Monday (September 7th), the

Alpine republic has been

relying on tougher measures in the course of the introduced Corona traffic light.

A look at the current infection numbers shows that this is understandable.

Corona in Austria: "That is too much for the republic"

According to official information from the Austrian Ministry of Health, the number of

people suffering from

Covid-19

rose

to 29,573.

Accordingly, there are currently 3,527 active

corona cases.

This development is worrying, because at the end of June there were around 400.

Update #Coronavirus 29,573 people tested positive.

# Covid19 Detailed information at https://t.co/6DZko67co0

- Ministry of Health (@bmsgpk) September 7, 2020

The number of infections in Europe has been increasing since the end of July - including Austria.

The daily new infections have been almost always above the 300 mark since mid-August - apart from the weekends.

On Monday, the federal agency spoke of 481 new

Covid-19 cases

.

Although this does not yet correspond to the

corona peak

in March, when a constant 800 new cases (on March 26th even 1,063) were added, the authorities are still concerned.

Anything over 100 new infections "is too much for the republic", says Christoph Wenisch, head of the infection department of the Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Spital in

Vienna

, opposite oe24.at.

Corona in Austria: dubious development - everything under control?

Despite these worrying tones,

Austria still

seems to be

coping well with

the situation at the moment.

It is currently possible to dismiss the health system.

Of the more than 3,500 active

corona cases

, only 29 patients need to be treated in the intensive care unit.

This is due, on the one hand, to advances in treatment and, on the other, to the fact that younger people are currently becoming more and more infected.

In this age group, the disease often takes a milder course.

Accordingly, there are hardly any new deaths at the moment.

A total of 16

Covid-19 deaths have been

added

since August 1

.

The death toll is 729, of which 57 percent are male.

All in all, it is important for the

black-green federal government

to closely monitor

current developments in

Austria

.

Is

the

Alpine republic

developing

into a

corona hotspot

?

Or is the current situation rather similar to that in other countries such as

Germany

comparable?

At the moment, many things indicate the latter, because

returnees still make up a large proportion of new infections

in

Austria

.

In order for it to stay that way, the number of infections should decrease soon.

Corona in Austria: Unexpected financial support from US President Donald Trump

Meanwhile, there is

unexpected help from Donald Trump *

for around 100

Austrians

.

Because

checks signed

by the

US President

to combat the economic consequences of the

Corona crisis

have now surprisingly

landed

with a number of

Austrians

.

According to the ORF, more than 100 such checks for 1200 dollars each (around 1000 euros) have now been cashed at banks.

The reason for the cash blessing could be a data breach with the American authorities.

The

US government

had sent checks to countless people, intended as help in the Corona crisis *.

Incidentally, payments to more than a million deaths were mistakenly made.

Apparently the Ministry of Finance and the tax authorities had not compared their data with the deceased reports from the social security authorities before sending the aid checks.
