The Fraser Institute of Canada published the "World Economic Freedom 2020 Annual Report" on Thursday (10th), again ranking Hong Kong as the world's freest economy, followed by Singapore; among the five major assessment items Hong Kong ranks first in both "freedom of international trade" and "regulation", but the report questioned that Hong Kong's rule of law may be weakened.

The spokesperson of the SAR Government responded that the report clearly affirmed Hong Kong’s determination to establish a free economy and provide a fair business environment, and emphasized that the rule of law is an important core value of Hong Kong. The spokesperson said that with regard to the enactment of the "Hong Kong National Security Law" and related enforcement actions mentioned in the report, the government reiterated that it is an international practice to maintain national security through laws, and the "Hong Kong National Security Law" aims to unswervingly and fully implement "One Country, Two Systems" and safeguard National security, preventing, stopping and punishing crimes that endanger national security will not affect the legal rights and freedoms of Hong Kong residents.
