The Musée d'Orsay, where
L'Origine du monde
is exhibited
, is it now so little offended?
Jeanne, a 22-year-old young woman, said on Wednesday September 9 that she was refused access by security guards because of an outfit deemed too light.
"Arrived at the entrance of the museum, I do not have time to take out my ticket as the sight of my breasts and my ragged pageantry shocks an agent in charge of controlling reservations"
, she wrote in an open letter to Museum.
Even if it will never be clearly said to her, the young woman understands that her cleavage is implicated in the refusal to let her enter the museum.
"
The rules are the rules
", the agents repeat to him at the entrance of the museum.
“
Another manager intervenes, at no time am I told that my cleavage is a problem.
We stare at my breasts
, ”writes the young woman.
The agents invite her to put on her jacket, which she eventually accepts in order to gain access to the museum.
Overzealous
The Musée d'Orsay explains that what it qualifies as an “
incident
” is the act of a security guard, who would have been guilty of overzealousness.
He would have "
not applied the internal regulations
", which impose no clothing restrictions on its visitors.
At the museum, it is felt that the individual responsibility of this agent is clear: "
This is the error of an agent
."
The museum specifies that this person is not among its employees, but was recruited by the service provider providing security at the entrance.
“
Maybe this agent lacked experience,
” says Orsay.

According to the museum, said agent, who was the subject of a call to order by management, admitted to having made a "
monumental error
".
But can we incriminate him alone, knowing that Jeanne explains in her testimony that she suffered the remarks of three employees?
In Orsay, it is estimated that the agents who agreed with their colleague did so out of solidarity, so as not to overwhelm him.
“
Five or six officers are at the entrance.
One speaks, makes a mistake, the others will not accuse or contradict him,
”we are told.

“
The incident is closed
”, explains one to the Musée d'Orsay, which apologized to the young woman.
In a press release published this Wednesday, September 9, it is also specified that a "
reminder of the reception rules has been made to the service provider placed at the museum entrances
".
The Museum insists on this: in the internal regulations, nothing prevents visitors from dressing as they wish.
"
Only wearing a mask is compulsory, of course, but we don't have to judge the physical appearance of our visitors, we owe them respect
."
