Microsoft's next-gen Xbox, the Xbox Series X, is about to land.

Originally called Project Scarlett, it was revealed during the 2019 Game Awards. In recent months, Microsoft has shown more and more about the console, including a smaller and cheaper variant called the Xbox Series S. Both systems are configured to offer graphics and performance of next generation, although there are some differences.

If you're looking to get hold of the latest Xbox console, you'll want to know what they are and even what kinds of games you can expect to play when the next generation arrives on November 10, 2020.

The $ 299 Xbox Series S and $ 499 Xbox Series X will be available for pre-order from September 22, with deliveries beginning on November 10.

The Xbox Series X is a very different beast than what you might expect from Microsoft's previous Xbox systems.

Its shape alone is unlike anything the company has done so far.

It's the most powerful system in the Xbox family and promises to take gaming realism to a new level.

It is the successor, in a sense, to the current Xbox One X.

The Xbox Series X looks more like a PC gaming tower with its portrait orientation and all-black finish, but its under-hood specs are more impressive than its aesthetic appeal.

This powerful new console features a custom-designed CPU, based on AMD's Zen 2 and Radeon RDNA architecture.

It's set up to bring you jaw-dropping images with 8K support and up to 120fps frame rate, ray-tracing (a new technique for rendering 3D scenes more realistically), and variable refresh rate support.

It'll also use a solid-state drive for faster load times, all of which puts you more in line with a high-end gaming PC than a console.

If you are a gamer and looking for a powerful console that is more like a PC, then the X Series is going to do it all.

The Xbox Series X will be available to pre-order from September 22 for $ 499.

The biggest difference between the Xbox Series S and its big brother, the Xbox Series X, comes down to what you get for your money.

For the average user, the all-digital Xbox Series S, without a disk drive, will probably be more than enough to meet the needs With a 512GB SSD and full support for the same games as the Xbox Series X, the S Series is quite surprising for a price of $ 299.

Like the X Series, the Xbox Series S is designed to take full advantage of next-generation technology.

Faster loading times, instant game switching, and support for up to 1440p resolution at 120fps.

Unlike the Xbox Series X, which supports up to 8K resolution, the S Series will only offer upscaling to 4K (via software), which is why it will be available for much cheaper.

In addition to internal differences, the S Series also has a much more contemporary design compared to the X Series, with the console more similar to its predecessors than the X Series.

Both consoles are scheduled to arrive on November 10, 2020, just nine days before one of the most anticipated titles of the year, Cyberpunk 2077.

The competition

When it comes to choosing the right next-gen console, the decision between the Xbox Series X (or Series S) or the PlayStation 5 will come down to what you expect from the console.

When it comes to sheer power, the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 will run at roughly the same clock speeds and offer very similar performance.

The S Series offers mostly the same as the more powerful Xbox, although there are some minor differences like the size of the solid state drive and the lack of 8K support.

Like the Xbox Series X, the PlayStation 5 will offer support for up to 8K resolution and up to 120 fps.

Both consoles feature a custom Zen 2 chip, although the X Series runs slightly faster at 3.8 GHz compared to the PS5's 3.5 GHz.

It's not really a huge difference in numbers, but it could turn out to be a huge gap once games start rolling out and consumers get their hands on the product.

Both consoles will offer the same amount of RAM, and even feature similar custom SSDs, although the X Series sports a larger one at 1TB compared to 812GB on the PS5.

The S Series will come with a 512GB SSD, making it the smallest offering of the three.

Since both the new Xbox consoles and the PlayStation 5 offer an almost similar configuration, choosing which one is appropriate depends a lot on the games you want to play.

There are a ton of great exclusives planned for next-gen Xbox and PlayStation consoles, so we definitely recommend taking a look at the catalog before making up your mind.
