Congress voted to admit the debate on a vacancy motion for moral incapacity against President Martín Vizcarra with 65 in favor, 36 against and 24 abstentions.
At least 52 votes were needed to admit the debate that should take place within the next 3 to 10 days.
A date is yet to be defined for Vizcarra to exercise his right to defend himself, either in person or through a lawyer.
