The US authorities announced that dozens of fires caused by the winds broke out in trees and towns in the West Coast states of the United States, destroying hundreds of homes and killing at least eight people.
Reuters quoted the US police as saying that during the past 48 hours, four people were killed in fires in California, while three were killed in Oregon, and a one-year-old child died in Washington state, noting that thousands of residents faced eviction orders in the three states.
Oregon bore the brunt of nearly 100 major forest fires ravaging the western states, with nearly 3,000 firefighters battling nearly 36 fires.
