The Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands "ACSAD" and the University of the Euphrates signed an agreement today to enhance technical and scientific cooperation between the two sides, at the center's headquarters in Damascus.
The agreement and “a period of five years, renewable by agreement of the two parties,” includes cooperation in the fields of multi-source water use, development of date palm cultivation, conservation agriculture, combating desertification, joint utilization of their laboratories and field experiment stations, and enhancement of technical and technical capabilities that contribute to developing the reality of agriculture in areas of interest to both parties.
It provides for the exchange of experiences and specialists, participation in seminars, workshops and training courses held by the two parties, provision of advice, transfer of expertise and technology, scientific publication, as well as the participation of both sides in supervising postgraduate students.
Under the agreement, the university will provide 500 dunums of agricultural land suitable for conducting experiments in all specialties.
Dr. Nasreddin Al-Obaid, Director of the Center, affirmed that this agreement will contribute to laying foundations for scientific and technical cooperation between the two sides, applying criteria for the optimal use of natural and human resources, sound management in the field of agriculture, and supporting mechanisms of action according to the priorities of sustainable agricultural development.
For his part, President of the Euphrates University, Dr. Jacques Mardini, drew attention to the important role that ACSAD Center plays in achieving sustainable Arab agricultural development, noting the prestigious scientific position it has reached in all fields of its work.
