The Ecuadorian National Police reported this Sunday that it launched an investigation into an incident of assault by police officers on a person in the city of Guayaquil, based on the images of a video that circulated on social networks.
According to a police statement, the Directorate of Internal Affairs, which is leading the investigation, seeks to "establish the circumstances and details of this police procedure."
The event happened at dawn this Sunday during the controls for the health situation of covid-19.

The Police, which considers this to be an isolated case, also indicated that during the incident a person was detained for assaults on police officers and damage to a patrol car.
The Minister of Government, María Paula Romo, confirmed in her Twitter account that an investigation has been initiated and added: "The law and the protocols must be strictly applied."
Police aggression circulates on social networks
This Monday, the communication department of the Ministry of Government confirmed to CNN that the video that circulates on social networks where three uniformed police officers are observed kicking a person who is on the ground is being the subject of an internal investigation by the National Police .
The video also shows a woman who shouts at the scene, allegedly asking the police to stop the attack.

Later it is observed in the video that one of the policemen moves to another location, runs and shoots at an unspecified point and proceeds to search other citizens.
Seconds later, another of the policemen sprayed what could be a gas on the people helping the man who was beaten at the beginning of the video.
The Government Ministry told CNN that it would not give further details about the investigation at this time.
Nor has it revealed the identities of the police officers involved or of the person attacked whose health status is unknown.
