Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov urged his German counterpart Heiko Maas, during a phone call between them today, to stop politicizing the issue of Russian blogger and dissident Alexei Navalny.
"The two sides focused attention during the call on the status and prospects of Russian-German relations as well as bilateral and international cooperation on the background of the situation around Navalny," Sputnik news agency quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying in a statement, noting that the Russian side affirmed its readiness to cooperate in this regard.
According to the statement, it was indicated again that Moscow is still waiting for the competent German authorities to respond to those inquiries directed in accordance with the European Convention on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters and the additional protocols attached to it and the inquiries of the Prosecutor General of Russia.
The spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, announced yesterday that the statements of the German Foreign Minister on the Navalny case prove that Germany is unwilling to reveal the truth about his poisoning allegations.
