Normalization with the Emirates and Bahrain is important, but these are not peace agreements

In contrast to the ceremonies and agreements between Israel and Egypt, Jordan and the PLO, there was no state of war between the two countries. The ceremony at the White House will also be in a different format, and will mainly serve as a "victory picture" for two leaders - Trump and Netanyahu - to muffle their failures.

A change in relations between countries from war to peace is always a dramatic event and it excites not only the peoples concerned.

The world is thrilled to see bitter enemies converting hostility into friendship.

Native American tribes who went from war to peace, performed ceremonies in which their leaders made a "peace pipe," and to proclaim to the world the attainment of peace, they blew the smoke into the four winds of heaven.

In the modern age, such an event is accompanied by impressive ceremonies that are broadcast live on television and on the Internet to all corners of the globe.

President Jimmy Carter began a tradition of holding "peace ceremonies" between Israel and the Arabs at the White House.

The first ceremony was held in September 1978 on the occasion of the signing of the "Camp David Agreements" between Israel and Egypt, with the participation of Menachem Begin and Anwar Sadat.

The second ceremony was held on the occasion of the signing of the peace agreement between these countries and personalities at the same place in March 1979.

The next pair of ceremonies were initiated and produced by President Bill Clinton.

Although the United States was outside the secret talks between Israel and the PLO, Clinton withdrew his sponsorship of the Oslo Accords and held a peace ceremony at the White House in September 1993, attended by Yitzhak Rabin and Yasser Arafat. After a year, Clinton, Rabin and King Hussein signed a peace agreement with Jordan. This time it was held in the Arava. All these ceremonies were attended by thousands of people and were broadcast all over the world by thousands of journalists.

The purpose of the ceremonies was to mobilize public opinion in support of the agreements among the signatory states, and their existence in the White House was intended to illustrate the backing that the United States and the international community had given them.

In Israel, there was opposition to renouncing the entire Sinai Peninsula in exchange for the peace agreement, and in Egypt there was widespread hostility to relations with Israel, which continues to this day.

The PLO and Israel have sworn never to know each other, to negotiate and certainly not to reach a peace agreement. Despite the good relations between Hussein and Israeli leaders, with whom there is hostility to Israel that continues to this day. The ceremonies are designed to reduce public opposition to agreements in the Arab world and Israel. Dynamics of trust-building and full-fledged

implementation on the ground. The agreements with the Emirates and Bahrain are important, very similar but not similar to previous agreements and ceremonies.Despite the formal names, these are not peace agreements between countries that have fought each other. With the two countries. There is no opposition in the UAE but there is some reservation in Bahrain, most of whose residents are Shiites.Unlike the Arab world that condemned and boycotted Egypt for the peace it struck with Israel, today, most of the Arab world welcomes normalization with the UAE and Bahrain.

The normalization agreements will force Iran to recalculate its course

The previous ceremonies were attended by the heads of state.

This time the Arab sides, which are the most important, are represented only by the foreign ministers.

The previous ceremonies outlined a way but it was not clear if the parties would perform it.

This time the pace of normalization is faster than the ceremony.

Begin and Rabin's contributions to the agreements were critical, and Netanyahu's, he said, were minimal.

President Donald Trump and Netanyahu were looking for a "victory picture" that would dim their disgraceful failures in managing the severe corona crises.

In the upcoming presidential election, Trump lags behind his rival Joe Biden and has no foreign policy achievements.

The glorious and impressive ceremony will confirm with diplomatic noise a diplomatic achievement.

The ceremony is also beneficial to Netanyahu because it illustrates his international status and diverts attention, at least temporarily, from the corona crises.

Due to a severe economic crisis, Carter's impressive peace ceremonies did not help him win a second term, he lost in 1980 to Ronald Reagan, and Trump is in the same situation today.

Beyond the next few days, it is doubtful whether the ceremony will significantly strengthen Netanyahu's status.

In both countries, the epidemic and economic collapse are far more important than the ceremony.
