Russia has renewed its call for lifting the unilateral coercive measures imposed on countries in light of the outbreak of the new Corona virus, noting that such measures and restrictions can undermine countries' capabilities to deal with the pandemic.
In a statement published on its official website today, the Ministry welcomed the invitation of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, during an interview with the Russian Novosti Agency, to reconsider the unilateral sanctions imposed on countries facing the pandemic, saying, “We welcome the Secretary-General of the United Nations to place this issue at the center of his attention. Given that unilateral restrictions not only violate the sovereignty of countries, they also have a catastrophic impact on the economy and the humanitarian situation in the country.
The ministry added in its statement that Russia, together with its opinion partners, has been talking for a long time in multi-directional forums about the need to stop practicing coercive economic pressures that harm ordinary citizens, undermine the principles of international law and contradict the directives and rules of the World Trade Organization, expressing hope that Guterres' invitation will reach To the hearing of those members of the international community who have gone too far in recent times with the use of coercive measures in reference to the United States of America.
Last May, Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, renewed the call for lifting the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on the Syrian people, stressing that they have caused Syrians to suffer in their daily lives and hinder the fight against the Corona epidemic.
