The government calls on science to reassure on 5G

2020-09-15T09:40:49.958Z

A report on the health impact of the new generation of mobile telephony is submitted on Tuesday. Le Figaro read it.

Explain and reassure.

Faced with the rise of voices calling for a moratorium on the launch of 5G, the government has asked four inspections to look into the subject.

The report, commissioned by four ministers in early July, was due on September 7.

It was finally this Tuesday, September 15.

The General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF), the General Inspectorate of Social Affairs (IGAS), the General Council for the Environment and Sustainable Development (CGEDD) and the General Council of the Economy (CGE) were mobilized.

Above all, they looked at the health impact of 5G.

The objective was to provide a subjective and documented opinion on the subject, in order to provide rational and scientific answers to the criticisms made of 5G.

No impact on health

The report's conclusions are clear: the first frequencies used for 5G have no impact on health if they are used within the limits set by European and French regulations.

However, they are.

The readings carried out by various agencies (therefore the National Radio Frequency Agency, ANFR) show that the levels recorded are 50 to 1000 times lower than the regulatory thresholds.

"

To date, the health agencies that have spoken, while calling for further research, consider the health effects of 5G, like other radio frequencies already used, not proven to be below the exposure limit values

", notes the report.

We must nevertheless distinguish two levels of frequencies: those in the 3.5 Ghz band and those in the 26 MHz band (called millimeter frequencies).

The first will be awarded at the end of September to the four French operators during an auction.

They are already used for 5G in more than ten countries and were previously used for other uses.

Their impact on their environment has therefore already been the subject of numerous studies, none of which formally concludes that there is a health risk.

The operators will mainly use them on existing pylons and high points.

There will therefore be no spouting of "antenna drills".

The seconds, 26 MHz, still require additional studies to be carried out to better understand the impact and, possibly, to define new emission standards.

They are also the ones which imply the massive deployment of new antennas.

Additional studies, some of which will be funded by France, will be carried out to ensure the safety of this technology.

Transparency

The drafters of the report wanted to be transparent, responding in this to the government's mission letter.

They therefore raise the questions posed by the use of 5G and the appearance of pathologies, particularly cancer.

"

The opinion is shared within health agencies on the fact that no explanatory mechanism has been demonstrated in a convincing way on the experimental level as likely to induce cancer

", specifies the report.

Before adding: "

For other authors, on the contrary, there is a large number of experimental works which demonstrate the existence of potentially deleterious biological effects occurring below the regulatory exposure thresholds

 ".

Once again, everything is therefore a question of thresholds, hence the importance of these, but also of vigilance zones established to protect populations presumed to be more sensitive, such as children.

Likewise, above certain thresholds, warming of the skin can be caused by the use of electromagnetic frequencies.

These levels are never crossed in the surveys carried out by the various national and international agencies that the authors of the report interviewed in the course of their work.
