Six young Afghans, including two minors, suspected of being linked to the fire that ravaged the Moria migrant camp on the Greek island of Lesvos, must be brought to the prosecution on Wednesday (September 16th), local officials said.

Four of the migrants were arrested during a police operation Monday on the roads of this island, where a huge fire ravaged the largest migrant camp in Europe last week, which hosted 12,000 refugees in unsanitary conditions.

The other two, aged 17, had been transferred to mainland Greece during an operation to evacuate some 400 unaccompanied minors, according to the official ANA agency.

They were then arrested.

Greek officials say the fire that ravaged the Moria camp, leaving its occupants homeless, was premeditated.

Earlier Wednesday, 13 migrants were detained on the island of Samos after a fire that threatened to spread to a migrant camp which is home to more than 4,700 people.

Most were later released, and only three remain under questioning, a local police source told AFP.

After the Moria fire, the Greek authorities hastily erected a temporary camp nearby to relocate the homeless, which should eventually accommodate up to 9,000 migrants according to European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson.

The Greek authorities said Wednesday that a thousand migrants have now settled there.

Among them, 25 have tested positive for the new coronavirus.

Thousands of other migrants have been sleeping on the roads since last week, with little food or access to water in scorching heat.

Germany has announced it will host more than 1,500 migrants from the Greek islands, Lesvos, while European Council President Charles Michel called for the island to Europe '
