British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab visited Washington and met with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on September 16.
Lan Taowen said after the meeting that the two talked about the issues of Hong Kong and Xinjiang and emphasized that the freedom of the people and the autonomy of Hong Kong must be respected.
Pompeo said that the two sides talked about the challenges the Chinese Communist Party poses to the world and the Chinese people.
The United States appreciates the recent measures taken by the British to respond to China’s challenges, including providing a voice and asylum for Hong Kong people, criticizing the repression in Xinjiang, and phasing out untrustworthy Huawei equipment.
Lan Taowen said that the two sides talked about each other's concerns about Xinjiang and Hong Kong, describing the local people as "very serious human rights violations."
He urged China to fulfill its international obligations and believed that it is very important to fully respect the freedom of Hong Kong people and Hong Kong's autonomy.
He pointed out that in the future, we will closely monitor the implementation of the "Minato National Security Law."
