When he was still in charge of the clinic in Burglengenfeld, says Felix Rauschek with a smile, he read with a bit of envy that the Tölz Asklepios facility was listed in “Germany's best hospitals” and “mine wasn't”. When he was still in charge of the clinic in Burglengenfeld, says Felix Rauschek with a smile, he read with a bit of envy that the Tölz Asklepios facility was listed in “Germany's best hospitals” and “mine wasn't”.

After moving to Tölz six months ago, the new managing director of the Asklepios City Clinic can now look forward to it himself.

Bad Tölz - The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) carries out an annual survey of the best clinics in Germany.

Tölz is once again at the forefront in 2020.

The FAZ selected and rated 2,200 acute care hospitals, university and rehabilitation clinics itself.

In the 150 to 300 bed category, Tölz came in 28th. “A confirmation for all 630 employees,” says Rauschek, especially since the FAZ bases its judgment on several sources.

On the one hand, objective surveys of the health insurance companies and the Bertelsmann Foundation were used.

Patient portals provided the subjective perspective.

Wide range of offers in Tölzer Klinik

Rauschek and clinic spokesman Christopher Horn attribute the fact that the relatively small Tölz City Clinic was so far ahead to the wide range of offers.

Tölz is classified in the area of emergency care at a level that only 150 clinics across Germany have, says the managing director.

This is in turn due to the fact that you have twelve specialist departments and can refer to outstanding features such as a cardiac catheterization laboratory, a stroke unit and a DaVinci surgical robot.

“Many houses of the same size don't have that,” says Horn.

Patient feedback more important than FAZ survey

Rauschek does not want to overestimate the FAZ-hospital comparison.

After all, there is also a business model from large publishers behind it.

However, the result is attentively registered and communicated in the own group.

And the positive result increases the chances of one's own company in the group family when investments are pending.

In the detailed analysis, the FAZ study does not help with quality management, says Rauschek.

The clinic management prefers to rely on the around 2500 patient feedback that is received annually.

They are anonymous and, according to Rauschek, give “a more differentiated picture”.

They also show whether any hospital's most important marketing measure, word of mouth, is working.

Incidentally, these ratings are also included in a nationwide Asklepios internal ranking.

There, too, Tölz is clearly in the “top quarter”, says Rauschek.

“And we've gotten better in the last three years,” adds Horn.
