The US Department of Commerce announced today that it will prohibit the downloading of TikTok and WeChat applications in the United States, as of next Sunday.
Last August, US President Donald Trump signed a decree requiring the Chinese "ByteDance" group to sell the American activities to implement "TikTok" its international social network within ninety days in continuation of his hostile and provocative policies towards China and its companies. "Reuters" quoted US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross as saying that "the main TikTok application will remain in place until the 12th of next November," while officials at the US Department of Commerce made it clear that the ban will not currently include any additional technical dealings for the TikTok application until The date of the 12th of next November.
According to US officials, the new decision, issued under the pretext of "security concerns," will cancel the "TikTok" and "WeChat" applications in the United States and prohibit the App Store in both "Apple" and "Alphabet Google Play" and others from displaying the two applications on any platform. ByteDance is in talks with the US company Oracle about a partnership agreement to implement "TikTok" in an attempt to avoid the US ban.
China had condemned the US executive order requiring ByteDance to liquidate any property it used in the “Tik Tok” application in the United States, explaining that the so-called “freedom and security” is nothing but an excuse to justify the “digital fleet gun policy” that some American politicians follow.
