Wackersberg

- Magnificent shooting targets and old boards from local associations form a special eye-catcher for guests in the historic hall of the Altwirt inn in Wackersberg.

A small drawing is less likely to catch the eye.

A summit cross, surrounded by flags and hung with garlands, and numerous visitors to a mountain mass can be seen on it.

Including not only the name of the draftsman G. Schäfer, but also the lettering: "Inauguration of the cross on the Blomberg on September 18, 1945".

Not everyone believes in the correctness of the date, because the fact that such a celebration should have taken place soon after the end of the war gives rise to doubts.

In addition, the appointment was a Tuesday.

But there are still Wackersbergers who can remember the event very well.

Above all Nikolaus Riesch, the "Bachbauer".

With the production and erection of the cross, his mother's promise was finally kept: If the son should return home healthy from the war, a sign that can be seen from afar will be set up in thanks to God.

Soon after the signing of the surrender came into force on May 8, 1945, the young lad returned to the farm.

And it didn't take long before the work began.

We even know the exact day it started.

Sepp Simon, the “grill” from Burger, had kept accurate records from 1936 and neatly recorded every day.

His son guards the writings like the apple of his own eye.

“Bachbauer Bergkreuz” was noted by the master carpenter, who was significantly involved in the production, on June 8th.

A good month later, on July 22nd, 45, you can read: “Bachbauer Kreuz made ready and charged.” The time required on this day is also noted as eleven hours.

And two days later we went up the mountain.

In the notebook it is written: Monday, July 23rd, Bach farmers Alois with Tyrolean and Pfluger Kilian drove away at 5 a.m. to the Blomberg.

Wackersberger Alm arrived safely at the top at ½ 11 o'clock. ”Six horses were needed for the eleven-meter-long and 30 by 30-centimeter thick oak trunk.

The crossbeam was drawn with two oxen.

After everything was assembled and screwed, around 20 local people helped set it up.

Riesch remembers: "The trunk is about two meters in the ground." The book also reads: "Scheifele lightning rods immediately attached."

Unfortunately, less is known about the day of the inauguration.

But when she was a child, Anni Riesch was allowed to go to the Blomberg with her grandpa.

“I was in third grade.

For this festive occasion I was braided two thick braids, but unfortunately the hairstyle completely dissolved on the way up, ”she recalls with a laugh.

She begged her grandpa for a long time, until he returned the girl's hair to almost its previous state in the forest.

And so it went on to the summit, where a large crowd of visitors took part in the festive service.

Incidentally, the transom was replaced a few years ago.

But the trunk is still the same and, even after 75 years, is still watching over the Isarwinkel in the best possible condition.
