The fate of the refugees from Moria also moves the Ickingen municipal councils.

But what they can do is very limited.

Icking

- Two urgent applications for the burned down refugee camp Moria on Lesbos caused major discussions in the

Icking

municipal council.

The first application came from the local SPD association.

In it he called on the community on the one hand to encourage citizens to take in children from Moria.

On the other hand, it should be checked where there is space for refugee families in Icking.

“It is the children in particular who suffer most here.

That is why our application tries to at least help them, ”said Julian Chucholowski (SPD).

The mayor's hands are tied

Mayor Verena Reithmann's (UBI) reaction was sobering for the applicants: "The framework conditions are very clear: There are no unaccompanied minors who can be housed anywhere in private households." Such a thing is only allowed in youth welfare institutions.

"That is a fact and the legal situation." It looks similar with the accommodation of families.

According to Reithmann, these are arranged by the district office and only quartered in asylum seekers' accommodation.

"I'm having a hard time with this proposal because I shouldn't be able to implement it," said the town hall chief.

Accordingly, the application was rejected with a dissenting vote (SPD).

Greens want a political signal

In an urgent motion, the Greens pleaded for a political statement to be on the side of the organization "Seebrücke" and to declare the community a "safe haven".

"We cannot change any major politics in Icking, but we can set an example and show that we are a safe haven," argued Laura von Beckerath-Leismüller (Greens).

Georg Linsinger and Stefan Schneider (both UBI) agreed and spoke of a “positive political signal”.

Matthias Ertl (PWG) saw it differently.

“We have just refused to check in the community where we have space for refugees.

For me this is the same as the first application. ”Julian Chucholowski (SPD) was also concerned about the application.

“In principle, that's a good thing.

But there are very clear requirements that such a port should adhere to. ”One goal, for example, is to take in more refugees than according to the quota distribution.

Claudia Roederstein (UBI) agreed with this statement.

“According to the pier's homepage, the whole thing requires a certain amount of activity.

And if that is really mandatory, I have to say, I would like to put on the brakes. "

Mayor Reithmann was also not happy with the suggestion: “I would find it really difficult to properly represent the citizens here.

I didn't speak to anyone about it in advance. ”With a narrow result of 8: 7 votes, the committee rejected the application.
