Lacoste Ladies Open de France: Julia Engstrom wins ahead of Céline Herbin

2020-09-19T17:46:58.356Z

A year after the coronation of the young American star Nelly Korda in front of the French Céline Boutier, history repeated itself at the Golf du Médoc Resort with the Lacoste Ladies Open de France title for the Swede Julia Engstrom, 19, ahead of Céline Herbin.

At the head of the Lacoste Ladies Open de France after her bluffing second round in 64 (no one has done better all week), the Swedish Julia Engstrom resisted the return of Céline Herbin to win on the wire at the Golf du Médoc Resort.

A year after the coronation of the American Nelly Korda (21 years old at the time of her title in 2019) in front of the French Céline Boutier, it is a new starlet of the world circuit who comes to block the road of the title to a tricolor golfer.

At 19, the debutante of the year ... 2018 (!) Signs a second career title, the second of the season.

Argentina's Magdalena Simmermacher had early signed a score of -6 at the clubhouse after the best card of the day (66), but it was Céline Herbin who made Engstrom tremble until the end.

A single bogey and everything changes for Céline Herbin

In the penultimate part, the 2015 winner gradually reduced her gap to the leader with three clear birdies on her first ten holes on Saturday.

But after 42 straight holes in a row, the Avranches golfer conceded the bogey at 17 to open the door of the title to the Scandinavian.

Engstrom even allowed herself a bogey on her 54th and last hole of the week to win with a little lead over Herbin and Argentina's Magdalena Simmermacher, author of the most beautiful card of the day (66).

After two last solid days (69 twice), Astrid Vayson de Pradenne signs a good sixth place (-2).

Decidedly unpredictable and still as talented as ever, the experienced Joanna Klatten snatches a new top 10 at the Lacoste Ladies Open de France, a year after her podium here and after seven months without any official competition!

Amateur golfer Lucie Malchirand is content with the 26th final place (+3), but the 17-year-old Marseillaise will retain her enormous first round which allowed her to lead the tournament after the first 18 holes.

For her last professional tournament, Valentine Derrey did not pass the cut.

This 30th French Open was certainly the most complicated edition to set up, but the sanitary conditions and the floods in May did not prevent once again a great show at the Golf du Médoc Resort!
