Yuan Guoyong, Chair Professor of the Department of Microbiology, Hong Kong University, and Kong Fanyi, Director of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Department of Internal Medicine, Hong Kong University, together with doctors in a number of public hospitals, found that the conjunctival secretions of patients with neo-coronary pneumonia without eye symptoms have been tested for neo-coronavirus. There is no virus in the nasopharynx, but a sample of the conjunctiva is positive for the virus.
The study was conducted between February and March. A total of 158 conjunctival secretions samples were obtained from 49 patients with new coronary pneumonia in four public hospitals. The samples were collected on the 3rd to 12th days of their illness. The first sample was on average Obtained on the 10th day of the issue.
The study found that the conjunctival secretions of four patients with new coronary pneumonia between 28 and 63 years old were positive for the virus, and all of them had no eye symptoms.
Their conjunctival secretion samples were tested positive by “reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction” (RT-PCR), and their ct value ranged from 32.7 to 37.7. The virus value was relatively high, that is, the amount of virus was relatively high. Low, four positive samples failed to cultivate the virus.

One patient’s nasopharyngeal sample on the 12th day of the illness was negative for the virus, but his conjunctival secretions were still positive, meaning that the new coronavirus was present in the asymptomatic eyes or longer than the respiratory tract .
Four patients were not admitted to the intensive care unit, and one patient did not develop fever or respiratory symptoms.
Professor Yuan Guoyong of the Department of Microbiology of the University of Hong Kong, and Hong Fanyi, Director of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Department of Internal Medicine of the University of Hong Kong, together with doctors in many public hospitals, found that the conjunctival secretions of patients with new coronary pneumonia without ocular symptoms can detect the new coronavirus.

Studies have pointed out that in a small number of patients with new coronary pneumonia, conjunctival secretions can be detected in low amounts of new coronavirus. They have no eye symptoms, but the risk of infection is still uncertain.
Therefore, when performing eye examinations, appropriate infection control measures need to be taken to prevent hospital infections.
