Several thousand demonstrators gathered this Sunday evening in Jerusalem to demand the departure of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, indicted for corruption and accused of mismanagement of the health crisis, while the country has been reconfined since Friday.

The protests were allowed despite the re-containment, whereby Israelis can only leave their homes within a kilometer radius to relax, and further afield only to go shopping or work if their profession is. deemed essential.
Protesters were as numerous this Sunday evening as in previous demonstrations, held every Saturday for nearly three months in front of the residence of Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem, despite the new restrictions, noted an AFP journalist.
They wore masks but did not respect the social distancing measures imposed to fight against the spread of the new coronavirus more than in previous demonstrations.

Israel, one of the countries with the highest rate of coronavirus contamination in the past two weeks, reconfigured on Friday, the first day of the Jewish holiday season, causing the discontent of a large part of the population.
This generalized confinement scheduled for at least three weeks coincides with the Jewish holidays of Rosh Hashanah (New Year, celebrated this weekend), Yom Kippur (day of forgiveness) and Sukkot (feasts of huts).
Israel, a country of nine million inhabitants, has recorded 187,396 cases of the new coronavirus, including 1,236 deaths.
