Based on the approved health protocol, the School Health Directorate in Damascus closed a classroom in a school for five days, following the discovery of a student being infected with the Coronavirus within it, and all necessary measures were taken to examine students and teachers in the school.

In a statement to SANA, the director of school health, Dr. Hatoon Al-Tawashi, explained that the mother of an 11-year-old student in the fifth grade informed the school administration of her daughter's fever and the emergence of some symptoms of infection with the Coronavirus, as she went to the hospital and confirmed the infection, and accordingly, the surveillance teams were directly informed. At the Damascus Health Directorate, to go to the student’s home and examine her family clinically.

Al-Tawashi indicated that after confirming the infection, the medical teams and the epidemiological surveillance team from the directorate were also sent to the school to examine all students and teachers at the school, and everyone was in good health.

Al-Tawashi also indicated that the infection was transmitted to the student from outside the school, considering that the symptoms appeared on her from last Tuesday and the incubation period is from 3 to 4 days, in addition to the presence of infected cases in her family, where symptoms also appeared on her sister while she is with her in the same class, confirming that the student is now in good health.

Al-Tawashi confirmed that the necessary measures have been taken within the health protocol to close the classroom for 5 days from Sunday to Thursday (this week) and monitor the health status of students and examine them from the surveillance team, and no suspected case has appeared, and the class teacher has been given a break at home to monitor her health condition and until now. She was in good condition and had no symptoms.

Al-Tawashi called on parents, in the event of any symptoms on their children (fever and respiratory symptoms), not to send their children to school and inform them of the matter to take the necessary measures to prevent the spread of injuries among students or teachers.
