A dead cyclist, seriously injured and a lot of property damage: The intersection of the B 472 to Altenstadt and Burggen has recently become the focus of accidents.
The state building authority has reacted and wants to build a roundabout.
But implementation is a long time coming.
At the intersection not far from the Schongau industrial park, it had recently crashed again and again
At the beginning of the year, the State Building Authority decided to build a roundabout
But that is a long time coming because the property negotiations have not yet been concluded
Altenstadt - Actually, the intersection of federal road 472 with district road WM 6 near Schongau West is quite clear.
Nevertheless, there was another crash two weeks ago when a woman coming from Schongau wanted to turn left in the direction of Burggen and overlooked an oncoming Skoda.
Fortunately, both drivers suffered only minor injuries.
A cyclist dies, a car driver is seriously injured
Other accidents did not end so lightly: At the end of January this year, a 63-year-old missed a school bus at the intersection and suffered serious injuries in the collision.
Three months earlier, a 79-year-old cyclist even died because she had overlooked a car and trailer when she wanted to cross the main road from Altenstadt to the south.
Other intersections of the B 472 west of Schongau are to be expanded without any elevation
According to Michael Meister from the State Building Authority in Weilheim, the authority started planning a roundabout at the beginning of this year.
"Due to the existing accident situation, the building authority has long been considering expanding the crossings with WM 23 near Ingenried, WM 3 north of Burggen and WM 6 west of Schongau to free up elevation", explains Meister.
Since the intersection with the WM 6 is now very close to the built-up area (industrial park), it is now of the opinion "that building a roundabout to reduce the number of accidents would also be conceivable at this point," added the spokesman for the authorities.
The "gas station of the future" is also to be connected to the roundabout
As reported, the entrepreneur Johann Emter is also looking forward to the roundabout.
Because it could also be used to connect his “filling station of the future”, in which Emter would like to offer not only conventional fuels but also self-produced hydrogen.
In April of this year, the entrepreneur, who wants to work with an international energy company on his project, reported "signals from the road construction authorities" that the roundabout would arrive on time.
Once the land negotiations are over, it will take at least another year
According to the State Building Authority, talks are currently ongoing with the landowners affected.
If the talks have been successfully concluded and the building law requirements are also met (including nature conservation and building law issues), "then the building project could be put out to tender and construction could take place in one to two years," said spokesman Michael Meister.
