Prof. Sharon Enav, director of the Department of Surgical Intensive Care at Shaare Zedek Hospital, has been working since the outbreak of the corona epidemic at an unusual load.

"There is a very big guilt in the public," she says in an interview with Israel Today, "weddings in the Arab sector, synagogues, demonstrations and family gatherings. On the roof in front of my mother sat 20-15 people, and no one put on a mask. There is no responsibility towards me. Others. Everyone behaves like that. Why did people have to get infected because of public irresponsibility? Where is the elected people? It is a collective irresponsibility. What education were given to the children? People do not put masks or put their noses out. We failed to consider each other and education. I'm in touch with "Colleagues from abroad, and they are shocked by what is happening here."

What do you think about the fact that thousands of people took part in the demonstration in Jerusalem without keeping their distance?

"There is no price for democracy, but there are many ways to demonstrate. Be creative, stand two feet apart, so a few miles away. There is no need to scream. You can do a demonstration with a lot of presence without all that touch."

Prof. Enav also sharply criticizes the media and the choice of interviewees on the subject of the corona.

"The media is still looking for the sensations and the riots, and there is no understanding that this is a war. We need to do homework and see who is interviewing. Not everyone who wants to speak should get on stage. Intensive care, internal and emergency care are those who treat Corona patients, and do not see them in the media. "Galia Rahav, who is amazing. We need to hear those who know how to conduct themselves in a time of disaster. We need to take experts in epidemiology, who build a model with data carefully and reach conclusions."

"Let them listen to the field"

According to Prof. Enav, the way of making decisions is also flawed.

"I do not know who advises the decision makers. I see problems with the timing and type of messages and the restless conduct with inconsistency. I do not understand how they made the decision to open after the first closure. Who thought there would be no second wave? The corona is here to stay. We have to learn to live. "However, policymakers need to get real information from the field."

Alongside these decisive things, Prof. Enav describes a very sad picture of the ward at Shaare Zedek Hospital.

"We do not have beds. If they do not recover at the professional and political level and start educating the public, at some point we will start laying out mattresses on the floor. The work is double, but the staff remains the same. Our department is full. Until we see the closure effect it will take two or three weeks. "In a sense, there is a closure. In a sense, I feel we are late for the train."
