The Chinese Air Force has released a video showing nuclear bombers attacking in a simulation of what appears to be an American base on the island of Guam.

The video was released at a time of growing tension between China and the United States, and on the second day of an exercise held by Beijing near Taiwan in protest of US officials' visits to the island in recent weeks.

Guam, in the Pacific Ocean, is home to large U.S. bases, including the Andersen Air Force Base seen in the Chinese video.

The basis will be critical to any U.S. response to a conflict that may erupt in the region.

The video was accompanied by dramatic music, similar to the trailer for a Hollywood movie, in which H-6 bombers were seen taking off from a base in the desert.

The video is called "God of War H-6K goes on the offensive".

During the video, the bomber appears to be attacking an unidentified mirror orbit, but according to satellite images it looks exactly the same as that of the Andersen base.

The music stopped abruptly, as the ground shook and then aerial images of the explosion were seen.

"We are the defenders of the homeland's air security, we have the security and the ability to always defend the security of the homeland," the Air Force wrote in a brief description of the video, which was posted on its vibe account, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter.

The Chinese Ministry of Defense and the Indo-Pacific Command of the United States military have not yet commented on the video.

Colin Koch, a research fellow at the Institute for Defense and Strategic Studies in Singapore, said the video was intended to highlight China's long-term attack capability and send a threatening message to the United States that it could reach targets like Guam, which should be safe.

The H-6 bombers were involved in the many maneuvers China recently conducted near Taiwan, which it sees as a rebel province.

Beijing has never abandoned the possibility of recapturing the island by military force.

The H-6K is the most upgraded model of the bomber, designed on the basis of the Soviet bomber Topolev-16.

At the same time, today the Eastern Army Command of the Chinese Army, which will command every possible attack on Taiwan, released its own propaganda video.

The video, titled "What if a war breaks out today?", Shows soldiers running through wooded hills and ballistic missile launches.

"Homeland, I swear I'll fight for you until I die," read large, gilt Chinese letters at the end of the video, amid explosions.

The Taiwan Defense Ministry said today that Taipei has the right to defend itself and launch a counterattack in the face of "harassment and threats," in a message addressed to China.

The Defense Ministry said Taiwan is not trying to create provocations, but it is also "not afraid of the enemy."

The United States has increased its arms sales to Taiwan in recent months, amid its tensions with China.

Washington is the Democratic island's most significant international partner, although there is no official relationship between them.
