It is almost 300 pages long, the new illustrated book by Josef Kriegmair and Helmut Lahr.

It is a colorful journey through the Langenpreisingen church year.

Some of the photos are 120 years old.

Langenpreising

- He did it again: local history researcher Helmut Lahr is bringing out another book on the history of Langenpreising these days.

"Durchs Langenpreisinger Kirchenjahr" is the second collaboration with the Langenpreisinger veteran Josef Kriegmair.

The 270-page hardcover illustrated book is a historical foray through the church year in the parish, which begins with the first Advent.

Following this chronology, the last chapter deals with the feast of St. Martin.

Some of the photos were even taken around 1900, which is around 120 years old.

When photography wasn't part of everyday life

“Photography was still something rare back then,” says Kriegmair.

The 83-year-old has accumulated almost countless pictures over many decades, and a large part of the new book is derived from them.

Lahr (65) says: “At that time we didn't photograph everyday life, but people lined up in front of the house for family photos - or at celebrations, on special occasions.

Often only a single photo was taken, ”says Lahr, a native of Langenpreisinger who lives in Garching.

In the book, (more recent) color photos alternate with ancient black-and-white images.

They show, for example, Corpus Christi processions, first communions, confirmations, supplications, parish festivals or excursions.

Also included is a snapshot with Chancellor Angela Merkel, which was taken in January 2015 when Langenpreisinger carol singers represented the Archdiocese of Munich-Freising in Berlin.

"Machma a Buach!"

The new book has its origin in a slide show by Kriegmair at a parish meeting at the Oberwirt.

At that time it was about church life in the community.

"Then Helmut said: Machma a Buach!" Reports Kriegmair.

Since the local writer had already sorted his slides so nicely for the lecture, there wasn't much left to do with making a work of them, Lahr thinks.

There are three main sources for the illustrated book: the Kriegmairs and Lahrs archives, plus a third party that does not want to be named.

Lahr also has photos of his father Josef in his collection.

He and his two brothers had been busy taking photos as early as the 1930s.

“At that time you were one of the very few who had an apparatus.

You have set up a darkroom at home, ”explains Helmut Lahr.

Some photos from that time can now be found in the book.

Parish libraries with many books, but rarely a work on the hometown

“Once it's lost, it's lost forever.

We want to keep the old, ”says Kriegmair, who therefore takes the initiative together with Lahr.

Less than a year ago, the duo published the illustrated book “Langenpreising im Wandel der Zeit”.

Everywhere, says Kriegmair, there are parish libraries.

But most of the time there are no works about the hometown itself, regrets the passionate local writer.

Two copies of the new illustrated book will be sent to the State Library in Munich.

An important piece of Langenpreisingen church and local history finds a safe place in the state capital.

The book, with an edition of 100, can be bought directly from Josef Kriegmair in Langenpreising.

He sells from Monday, September 28th, and asks for advance registration on Tel. (0 87 62) 26 74. The book will appear shortly before the harvest festival, which will be released in Langenpreising after a postponement of one week on Sunday, September 27th. is celebrated.

“Through the Langenpreisinger church year” costs 25 euros.
