Scientists from Liverpool and Bale University and University College London have warned that the emerging corona virus may have devastating effects on the brain.
According to the scientific journal Nature, it became clear to scientists that 62 percent of patients who contracted the coronavirus suffer neurological and psychological complications due to damage to the brain's blood supply network, while 31 percent of patients have had a disorder of consciousness and a prolonged coma.
According to the results of the University College London study, the most common consequences of infection with the coronavirus are stroke and inflammation of the brain tissue, which can turn into acute diffuse encephalomyelitis, as nerve cells lose their membranes, leading to symptoms of multiple sclerosis.
"We found a group of patients who were relatively young, without the usual risk factors for strokes, as well as patients with severe, inexplicable mental changes," said Benedict Michael, a neuroscientist from the University of Liverpool.
In turn, the neurologist Fernand de Felice of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro said that more than 50 percent of people with severe cases of "Covid 19" may suffer from neurological complications.
