Eight years have passed for them.

A long time to prepare for the end of a term.

This is one of the longest terms the senior lawyers have arranged for themselves around the Attorney General.

All deputies serve as counselors for eight years.

The term of office is intended to inject new blood into the system, change directions of thinking and prevent mental fixation.

Two examples that illustrate how important the government's decision was to allocate terms to senior public service officials are the Attorney General in the Prime Minister's Office, Shlomit Barnea Fargo, and the Attorney General of the Civil Service Commission, Ron Doll, who have been in office for about 20 years.

The mental fixation there, according to knowledgeable sources, is a thing there.

Dina Zilber and the Civil Service Commissioner, Prof. Daniel Hershkovitz, have been on guard, ensuring that senior civil service officials retire on time. The date is known. In advance and the preparation is accordingly.

Handsome demands - but not handsome fulfills.

Eight years later, Attorney General Mandelblit and Justice Minister Nissenkorn asked the Civil Service Commissioner to extend Dina Zilber's term by three months. The commissioner, who chairs the Exceptions Committee along with the ombudsman and the director general of the Prime Minister's Office, does not consider disqualifying himself at all. Seemingly as a conflict of interest, since Dina Zilber accompanies him in counseling in all areas of his business. Hershkovitz and Mandelblit sit shoulder to shoulder and jointly approve, in an Exceptions Committee, the extension of the term.

Why does Mandelblit insist on extending Zilber's term, rather than appointing an alternate until the government elects his replacement?

Dina Zilber has become a symbol of time when she has chosen to confront publicly elected officials, and many see her as a representative of legal activism.

In the various "Silver Storms" (loyalty to culture, exclusion of women, appointment of Dan Eldad and more) many saw political intervention and defiance that goes beyond legal advice.

Being a sergeant, Nissenkorn and Mandelblit chose to extend her tenure as part of the political games they play in the second-floor corridor in Saladin.

During the extension period, the two will be able to cook the appointment of the preferred replacement, Dr. Gil Limon, who accompanies Mandelblit at his various stations from the army, through the government secretariat and now as his senior assistant in his role as ombudsman.

It seems that until Mandelblit does not make sure that Limon inherits it, Zilber's place will be preserved.
