Top 14: eleven of the fourteen budgets revised downwards

2020-09-22T20:08:00.583Z

The health crisis has caused an economic crisis in French rugby. Only Toulon and Agen have increased their provisional budget for the 2020-2021 season. The biggest drop is recorded by Clermont.

The sportune.fr site has unveiled the estimated budgets of the Top 14 clubs for the 2020-2021 season.

As expected, the health crisis and the lack of ticketing revenues have forced the presidents to revise them downwards, putting a stop to the upward trend of recent years.

This is the case for eleven of them (Racing 92 kept the same budget).

Among the three biggest drops, we find Clermont (- 4.8 million euros, which goes from 3rd place to 6th in one year), Stade Rochelais (- 3.1 million) and Montpellier (- 2.7 million ).

Two clubs have, on the other hand, increased their budgets.

SU Agen (+ 700,000 euros), the only one of the Top 14 residents not to have reduced the salaries of its players, and RC Toulon.

A substantial increase for the Var club since the budget jumps by 1.8 million euros compared to the 2019-2020 season.

25 million euros budget on average

The biggest budget of the Top 14 remains, like last season, that of the Stade Français Paris (38.8 million euros), in front of the Stade Toulousain (36.6 million), Lyon (32.9 million), now under heels by Toulon (32.5 million).

The two smallest budgets of the Top 14 are those of Aviron Bayonnais, CA Brive and SU Agen.

On average, the budget of a Top 14 club is slightly over 25 million euros.
