The Canadian police had just searched an apartment near the city of Montreal - there are now concrete indictments in the USA against a Canadian who was arrested after sending a letter containing highly toxic ricin to Donald Trump.
According to the indictment, she is accused of threatening the US president.
The 53-year-old was brought before a federal court in New York on Tuesday.
According to the court, the envelope with the poison contained a letter to Trump in which the woman described the president as an "ugly tyrant clown".
In the letter, she accused Trump of "ruining the USA and leading it into disaster".
Ricin is a poisonous protein that is obtained from the seeds of the miracle tree.
In humans, if inhaled, swallowed or injected, the substance can cause severe organ damage and, depending on the dose, death.
No antidote is known.
At the court hearing, the judge filed a plea not guilty on behalf of the defendants.
This grants her greater rights in this phase of the legal process than if she were to plead guilty.
During the appointment, the woman said only a few words.
Mail to the White House is sorted elsewhere
The woman was arrested on the weekend while trying to enter the United States from Canada.
She had a gun with her.
The ricin letter to Trump had been intercepted and not made it into the White House.
Mail for the White House is first sorted and examined in warehouses outside of Washington.
According to the Canadian police and the US judiciary, the woman had sent letters containing ricin not only to Trump, but also to several addresses in the US state of Texas.
According to the US, the letters were addressed to officials in detention facilities where the 53-year-old had been held for illegally possessing weapons last year.
