The hospital arranged for the boy to be tested for COVID-19, and the initial result was positive. He is currently hospitalized in the pediatric isolation ward and is in stable condition. 10 sick children in the same room are defined as close contacts. Together with another operations assistant responsible for cleaning the patient’s bathroom, they are all subject to 14-day isolation and quarantine; the other 6 sick children in the same room are subject to 28-day medical surveillance. Tuen Mun Hospital has arranged for thorough cleaning and disinfection of the wards.

The boy returned to the pediatric ward of the hospital last Friday for treatment

The boy himself has a long-term illness and needs regular treatment. The most recent time was on the morning of September 18, he stayed in the pediatric ward of the hospital for nearly two hours.

The boy had no symptoms of respiratory tract infection at the time and had worn a mask most of the time.



The infection control team launched an investigation after learning of the boy's test results and traced the medical staff and children who had contact with him in the pediatric ward that day.

Among them, 10 sick children in the same room are defined as close contacts and need to be quarantined for 14 days; the other 6 sick children in the same room need 28 days of medical surveillance.

An operation assistant responsible for cleaning the patient’s bathroom was also required to undergo a 14-day quarantine because he did not wear a full face mask.

Tuen Mun Hospital has arranged for the relevant wards to be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, and reminded colleagues to wear appropriate personal protective equipment in accordance with the guidelines.

The hospital has reported the case to the Centre for Health Protection and will cooperate with the follow-up work.
