The University of Chile will receive this Wednesday the donation of an original manuscript of the sonnet "Sangre de Toro", typed and signed by the poet Pablo Neruda in 1965, which was found last July.

The discovery occurred in the apartment of Perla Grinblatt, who recently died, who, along with her husband, Sergio Teiltelboim, were friends of Neruda, a Chilean writer and Nobel Prize winner for Literature.

This would be the preliminary version of the sonnet published together with the Guatemalan poet and also Nobel Prize winner for Literature, Miguel Ángel Asturias, in the 1969 book Eating in Hungary. The verse, which takes its name from a famous Hungarian red wine, honors passion Pablo Neruda for food and drink.

  • Valparaíso, the city where Pablo Neruda wanted to “write in peace”, turns 482 years old

The writer had given several poems to Grinblatt and Teiltelboim, at least 15, according to one of the daughters of the marriage.

The woman said that after the 1973 coup in Chile, the residence was raided several times by the military, so they preferred to destroy everything.

Therefore, it was presumed that this manuscript had disappeared forever until one of the daughters found it after Grinblatt's death, at the age of 94, on July 14, 2020.

The University of Chile will receive the work as a donation on September 23, when Neruda's death is 47 years old.

It will be in a virtual ceremony in which the three daughters of the marriage will deliver the document to the Andrés Bello Central Archive for its conservation.
