Ramona Galarza, an emblem of the chamamé, died

Ramona Galarza

died this Tuesday at the Pirovano Hospital, after suffering cardiac arrest at home.

She was 80 years old.

The information was confirmed by the president of the Corrientes Institute of Culture, Gabriel Romero.

Popularly known as "La Novia del Paraná", Galarza was key in the popularization of the chamamé throughout the country.

Born in the province of Corrientes on June 15, 1940, Ramona Modesta Onetto (her original name) began her musical career in her childhood.

First it was at school events and family gatherings, until landing on the big stages in the late 50s.   

In all, he recorded more than 30 original albums and participated in nine films.

Among its repertoires, "Merceditas", "Pescador y guitarrero", "La vestido celeste", "Virgencita de Caacupé" and its Guarani version of "Kilómetro 11" stand out, among others.
