Fifteen years were spent by Merhej Shaheen collecting heritage collections to make them a prominent place within his home in the town of Al-Tha`la in the countryside of Sweida, reflecting his adherence to the local heritage and his love for originality and heritage.
Uncle Merhej or Abu Talal, as he is called, collects hundreds of old pieces related to agriculture, such as study boards, water tools such as “khabiya”, food tools such as “manasif,” and means of cooking such as “kerosene joints and kubbeh jars” and lighting devices such as “lux”. And kerosene, Arabic coffee preparation tools, copperware and pottery.
Also featured in the additive are weights, inlaid wooden boxes, irons, old radios, coins and notes, swords, multi-sized utensils, various antiques, and some pieces that are more than 150 years old, such as coffee.
The center of the additive is decorated with a bitter coffee grinder weighing more than 40 kilograms, which is considered one of the largest coffee pots in the Sweida governorate, in addition to an old coffee grate with ten rings, he said.
A message carried by Uncle Abu Talal from his work to revive the past and remind current generations of it, indicating that every piece he has carries values and significance and reflects the nature of old people's lives and collected them by purchasing from his money after searching for it in various villages and regions of the province.
Uncle Abu Talal, despite his 74-year-old age, is still determined to collect more antique pieces and collectibles as long as he is alive, expressing admiration for every piece he collects and being greatly influenced by his possessions.
Abu Talal's love for heritage is in harmony with his love for his homeland, as he was one of the first in the field in the battle of Tha`la airport against terrorist organizations in June 2015, and his son was injured during the war on terrorism in addition to his distinction as a popular poet and his playing of the rabab, as well as being a former hero of sports Wrestling.
According to one of the residents of the town of Al-Tha`la, Karam Deeb, Marhej Shaheen devoted his time and effort to collecting heritage collectibles that appeal to everyone who sees them and reflects his hobby and love for heritage.
According to the owner of heritage collection experience, Mulham Maddah, the collections of Uncle Abu Talal are varied, and distinguished pieces are distinguished in them.
