Anita Kraut, a naturopath from Steingaden, and her husband Siegfried Fichtl want to set up a tiny house in Bernbeuren and intensify the cultivation of medicinal herbs and plants there.

However, it is questionable whether the authorities will approve this.

  • The couple want to move from Steingaden to Bernbeuren in a tiny house

  • The two have had the property outside for 25 years

  • Endangered plants also grow on it

  • The council wants to think carefully

Steingaden / Bernbeuren - The couple presented the plans on a plot of land in the outskirts of Bernbeuren at the latest meeting of the municipal council.

Although the building law hurdles are high, Mayor Karl Schleich and the committee were quite open to the idea.

She got the property from her parents 25 years ago, says the 60-year-old alternative practitioner.

Together with her husband, she has created a small paradise out of a "stinking pond" (herb) and the reason: rare and sometimes endangered perennials of wild plants grow in several large beds.

You still have a lot to do

With the help of wild seeds, the two have succeeded in reintroducing protected and endangered wildflowers.

In addition, Kraut und Fichtl have created a medicinal herb garden with native plants in seven beds, which is occasionally already used for guided tours for experts.

In the future, the two want to achieve a lot more.

In addition to the production of wild plants for a naturopathic company, guided tours are to be offered on a larger scale and an alpine garden (rock garden) is to be built.

There is a catch

The 60-year-olds also envision an open day that takes place two to three times a year.

“According to our research, there is no comparable project anywhere in Bavaria.

It would literally be unique, ”says Anita Kraut.

The catch: The area is freely accessible, one or two dogs are already leaving their piles, the couple reported to the local council.

In order to protect plants and herbs, the two would have to be permanently on site.

And this is what Kraut and Fichtl are now planning with the tiny house that fits into the landscape.

With its own source and sewage treatment plant, the house would be self-sufficient.

The heating is to be done with wood, the electricity comes from a solar system on the roof.

The town council said neither yes nor no to the plans.

The outside area is highly protected, and rightly so you have to think carefully about it, explained the mayor.

He now wants to talk to the district office first, that is essential.

Kraut und Fichtl want to cultivate the fields “until we cross the Jordan”, they say.

The parking permit for the tiny house should therefore only be valid for the lifetime of the applicant.
