The Farchant municipal council has recognized the need for additional kindergarten places.

An extension to the St. Andreas Kindergarten is also planned.

The same thing year after year: the Farchant community has to apply to the Garmisch-Partenkirchen District Office for a twelve-month operating permit for an emergency group.

The boys and girls are housed in the St. Andreas kindergarten on Wankstrasse.

In the municipal council, the local politicians have now confirmed the need for additional support.

Mayor Christian Hornsteiner (CSU) believes that offering more seats is a necessity.

The current emergency group will not approve of the district office forever, he fears.

"During the last extension the request came to find a final solution."

For the time being, the bottleneck remains.

A look at the numbers shows that.

There are currently 78 places in the St. Andreas Kindergarten, plus the ten-person emergency group.

41 children attend the St. Florian kindergarten - that makes a total of 129 places in town.

In 2021/22, however, the community will have to accommodate 142 boys and girls, and a few younger ones in the crèche.

The Committee for Tourism, Culture, Social Affairs and Associations has recommended that the municipal council recognize the need for an additional group with 25 seats.

It should not become a permanent condition that we have to have an emergency group approved every year.

Mayor Christian Hornsteiner

Hornsteiner sees a need for action.

“It shouldn't become a permanent condition that we have to have an emergency group approved every year.” The institution is run by the Catholic Church, but it will not cover the costs for an expansion.

She has already leaked this, but rather continues to play the ball to the community.

The administration therefore commissioned a planner to create a concept for an extension at the St. Andreas kindergarten.

Another variant also seems possible: A container on the site should be discussed.

Whatever it is, a solution is needed.

Hornsteiner leaves no doubt about that.

Creating kindergarten places is a compulsory task of the community.

The mayor has already found out about funding and there have been initial talks with the government of Upper Bavaria.

The federal government is planning new rates for kindergarten construction.

"We are hoping for more funding than under the old program."
