New York (CNN Business) -
It's Microsoft's turn to fuel the Xbox Series X buying frenzy, after retailers opened pre-orders for Sony's PlayStation 5 last week.
The demand for video game systems is above the norm, but ordering either of the two consoles has been a difficult experience for many.
The next-gen Xbox Series X console was available for pre-order Tuesday, along with the cheaper and smaller Xbox Series S.

Advance orders
Retailers like Amazon, Target, Best Buy, GameStop, and Walmart opened pre-orders Tuesday morning.
Immediately after orders increased, players on social media reported that they were unable to access retailers' websites, encountered broken links, and unavailable products.

The PlayStation 5 was in equally high demand last week.
Analysts predict that Sony's console will outsell the Xbox Series X by a wide margin, due to its attractive exclusive games such as "Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales."
Similar to Microsoft's launch issues, Sony's uncoordinated effort last week had customers scrambling to figure out how to pre-order their PS5.
Xbox Live programming director Larry Hryb addressed the website's issues in a tweet.
“As pre-orders begin around the world, our retail partners tell us that the demand is high.
“We are doing everything we can to make as many consoles available as possible and to keep the process fair.
Thank you for your patience!".
