US President Donald Trump passed the coffin of the late Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg in the Washington Supreme Court today (Thursday), when protesters shouted at him in the background: "Respect her will."

Protesters and Democrats are furious at the Republican president and his party members in Congress, who are promoting the appointment of a replacement for the Liberal judge before the November election, despite Ginsburg's request.

Trump, wearing a black mask, and First Lady Melania Trump stood in silence behind the flag-wrapped flag placed at the foot of the Supreme Court.

The president does not appear to have noticed the protesters calling for a vote against him in November on a nearby street.

For Trump it was an unusual event, both because he rarely pays respect to his political opponents in general and because of his reluctance to wear masks in public.

He often mocks his Democratic opponent Joe Biden for it.

The death of the 87-year-old judge last weekend grabbed the political agenda ahead of the election in less than a month and a half.

Trump was given a golden opportunity to appoint a third judge during his tenure, thus increasing the conservative majority from five to six out of nine members of the Supreme Court.

Democrats accuse Republicans of hypocrisy because they halted a similar scenario when President Barack Obama was in 2016, arguing that one should wait until the election is over and the results are known.

Battle for the top: Biden and Trump will try to inflame their base

Today, Trump said that "I think it will be very fast," and he promised that a woman would replace Ginsburg.

"I have five wives. I love them all," he said in an interview with Fox.

He is expected to announce the candidate, who will be pictured for a high-ranking position for the rest of her life, on Saturday night.

The president insists on filling the Supreme Court even before it is known whether he will win a second term, due to his unsubstantiated allegations of widespread forgeries expected in the postal vote.

Tonight he said he thinks the election will reach the doorstep of the Supreme Court, "and I think it's important that we have nine judges."

Two Republican senators running for another term in November have said they oppose the move, but Republicans have enough votes in the Senate to secure the appointment even before the election.

Judge approval needs a simple majority, and out of a hundred senators, 53 seats are manned by Republicans.

Biden said Trump is abusing his authority.

Democrats are trying to increase support for them when they warn voters that the Conservative majority in the Supreme Court will violate women's rights and other liberal achievements.

On Friday, Ginsburg's coffin will be placed on Capitol Hill - and she will be the first woman to receive this honor in American history.

The liberal judge who became a feminist symbol was simply the second woman ever on the Supreme Court when she received the appointment from Democratic President Bill Clinton in the 1990s.
