On Wednesday, the Russian opposition politician Alexej Navalny was released from inpatient treatment at the Berlin Charité - but, according to his spokeswoman, he will probably be treated in Germany for weeks.

"Of course, Navalny's recovery will take a long time," said his spokeswoman Kira Jarmysch.

Navalny is staying in Germany for the time being and will undergo rehab treatment there.

"That is clearly not a question of a few days and probably not a question of a few weeks either."

Ten days ago, Nawalny's spokeswoman announced that a return to Russia was planned.

According to his own statements, the 44-year-old Navalny still suffers from considerable physical consequences of poisoning with the nerve agent Novichok.

For example, he can no longer throw or write a ball with his left hand.

However, the attending physicians believe that a full recovery is possible.

On August 22nd, he was admitted to the Charité after collapsing two days earlier during a flight in Russia and after being admitted to a Siberian hospital after an emergency landing.

"Thank you, your unknown good friends"

Navalny thanked the pilots for the emergency landing and the paramedics for the first aid at Omsk airport on Friday.

Although he doesn't know their names, he owes his life to them, Navalny wrote in a blog post.

"Thank you, you unknown good friends," wrote Navalny.

"You are good people."

Navalny said that according to the "murderer's plan" he was to die on the flight from the Siberian city of Tomsk to Moscow and to arrive in the Russian capital in a "black body bag".

A "chain of happy coincidences" and the quick intervention of "unknown good people" prevented this.

According to his spokeswoman, Navalny wants to return to his home country after completing his medical treatment.

According to Yarmysh, his assets in Russia have since been frozen by order of a court.

Navalny can therefore not make transactions through his bank accounts.

According to the federal government, Navalny was "undoubtedly" poisoned with a chemical nerve agent from the Novichok group.

Moscow rejects the suspicion that Russian government agencies may have deliberately poisoned Navalny.
