It would be the end of an era: the renowned Königsdorfer bakery is offered for sale.

The owner is the head master of the Miesbach / Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen bakers' guild.

  • Konrad and Maria Stelmaszek have been running the Königsdorfer bakery since 1986.

  • Now the couple are setting the course for the future.

  • Your residential and commercial building on Königsdorfer Hauptstrasse is for sale.

Königsdorf

- Konrad (58) and Maria Stelmaszek (54) have been running the multi-award-winning bakery in Königsdorf, which is known far beyond the municipality's borders since 1986.

But after more than 30 years, the end of an era is on the horizon: The couple is offering their detached residential and commercial building "with a profitable bakery" on Königsdorfer Hauptstrasse through a Starnberg real estate agent.

The price: just under three million euros.

The operation initially continues "completely normally"

“There is no deadline”, emphasizes master baker Stelmaszek in an interview with our newspaper.

The company continues to run “completely normally”.

"If you advertise a car, it doesn't mean that you will find a buyer - and that you will actually sell it in the end," says the 58-year-old.

But he makes no secret of the fact that he and his wife will not run the business until never before.

Stelmaszek quotes a song text by Udo Jürgens: "I've never been to New York", which he translates for himself as: "Sometime there must be something else besides work."

For around 15 years, the Königsdorf headmaster of the Miesbach / Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen bakers' guild has been through many ups and downs.

This includes the latent shortage of young talent "which runs through the entire trade".

It is now clear: the four Stelmaszek children between the ages of 25 and 33 are not following in the footsteps of dad and mom.

"So it makes sense to set the course early on how things should proceed," said the 58-year-old.

The almost 20 employees of the Königsdorfer Backstube, in which, among other things, the Tölzer country bread and the award-winning stollen are always freshly made, are informed about everything.

“Nobody has to worry,” says the boss.

The number of bakers in the guild area is falling continuously

No, the corona pandemic was not the trigger for the advertisement.

The past few weeks have been associated with many challenges, "but we are broadly positioned".

For example, the campsites on Lake Bibisee and in St. Heinrich are supplied with baked goods.

“And something was going on there,” noted Stelmaszek.

"If you advertise a car, it doesn't mean that a buyer will be found - and that you will actually sell it in the end."

Konrad Stelmaszek

Baker: “It's still a nice job,” says those who should know.

“I am still passionate about it,” explains Stelmaszek, whose maxim is: “You do something entirely or not at all”.

But “at 70, I no longer want to be in the bakery,” he admits.

Ergo, he is looking for someone who will take over responsibility for the Königsdorf bakery in the future.

Knowing that the number of bakers in the guild area is shrinking year by year.

Not least because of the competitive pressure from discounters and petrol stations.

If someone who is interested can be found, he will be happy to provide them with advice and assistance "if required", says the 58-year-old.

"But now let's just wait and see." On the other hand: Konrad and Maria Stelmaszek do not want to put their retirement on the long bench.

As Udo Jürgens said: “At the age of 66, that's where life begins.” Cce
