The old Wiesseer Badepark is being demolished.
In the referendum on Sunday, almost 88 percent voted for a new building.
The turnout was 38 percent.
The Wiesseer Badepark is 50 years old and so dilapidated that it is no longer worth renovating.
A finding that citizens do not doubt: 87.70 percent voted in favor of the council request.
The question was: "Would you like the bathing park to be demolished and a new bath to be built on the same property as quickly as possible, which at least includes the currently available uses?"
38 percent of the people from Wiesse participated in the decision.
1610 valid votes were cast.
1412 citizens voted for the demolition, 198 and thus 12.30 percent against
Decision confirms decision in principle
The result of the decision agrees with the fundamental decision that the former municipal council had already unanimously made in January of this year in a non-public special meeting.
Behind closed doors, the decision was made to tear down the old bathing park and replace it with a multifunctional indoor pool.
However, it was important for the new municipal council elected in March, headed by Mayor Robert Kühn (SPD), to get the support of the citizens.
This has now been achieved with the Council request.
In an initial reaction, Kühn was pleased: "I did not expect the result with such clarity." He was satisfied with the turnout.
"The minimum requirement I set myself has been reached."
The new bathroom should be ready in 2024
The demolition of the bathing park is sealed.
It has been closed since the beginning of the Corona crisis and will no longer open.
The community now wants to start planning the new building quickly.
Estimated construction costs: 30 million euros.
If everything goes as hoped, the new vitality pool will open in winter 2023 or summer 2024.
