Dangers and rules
Cybergrooming Up Arrow Down Arrow
This is the technical term for sexual harassment of children online.
Offenders specifically address minors - often under a false identity - and try to build trust.
Their goal is to get revealing photos of adolescents, harass them with disgusting photos, or find out where the children live in order to ambush them.
There have been a lot of scandals around various platforms because perpetrators have been successful there.
Cybergrooming is a criminal offense.
You'll find more about it here.
Cyberbullying and Hate Speech Up Arrow Down Arrow
This means mean words and hatred on the internet.
The attacks can be directed against individuals, but also against groups who are attacked because of their origin or religion or who are insulted because of their appearance.
All of the children and teenagers we spoke to for this article have had some cyberbullying experience.
Not everyone can put it away, the mean sentences hurt.
Counteracting this helps: counter and report.
Good advice and further information can be found here and here.
Age Limits Up Arrow Down Arrow
On most of the platforms popular with children and young people, such as TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and Snapchat, the following applies: A separate account is permitted from the age of 13, provided that the parents agree.
The reality is different, however, and many children use the apps even though they do not meet these requirements.
Because the age is not checked.
On Instagram, use by younger children is permitted, provided that the parents operate the account.

What is really important?
Protect your privacy! Up arrow Down arrow
Never reveal where you live, what your mobile phone number is or what your last name is on the Internet.
Do not film or photograph the faces of your friends or siblings without prior consultation.
You should also think carefully about a room tour in your own home and discuss it with your family.
The temptation may be great - especially if the followers demand it.
But in real life, would you want thousands upon thousands of people to visit your room?
Hardly likely.
Even if you have a lot of your peers in your community who you think are really nice - in reality most of them are strangers and it's none of their business what your bed looks like.
Be with you! Up arrow Down arrow
Even if you think that you know your way around the Internet better than your parents, you are a minor.
They are responsible for you and your social media channels.
Discuss with them what is okay, and most importantly, what is not.
If someone writes to you in a way that you find it strange, uncomfortable, or even gross, don't keep it to yourself.
This is especially true when these people ask you to keep the contact "between you".
Let your parents know right away.
Do your own thing! Up Arrow Down Arrow
There is so much uniformity on social media: the same challenges, the same dances, the same "10 types of ...".
You can actually let off steam creatively on the Internet.
Photo motifs for Instagram don't have to be poses like those from the fashion catalog or chicly photographed cereal.
You can definitely consider another topic if you want to open your own account.
Maybe you can draw great and show your results on Insta?
Or do you like to take photos in nature?
Or do you take macro shots and transform the motifs into small works of art with filters?
For children, the main purpose of the Internet should be to have fun.
