NEWS filed an appeal today (Sunday) in the Be'er Sheva District Court against the decision not to publish the name of the suspect in the attempted murder of his wife in Mitzpe Ramon, and requested that it be published.

Be'er Sheva Magistrate's Court Judge George Amorai banned the publication of the name of the man suspected in the attempted murder that took place about two weeks ago - and this angered social media surfers, who contrary to the court's decision published the suspect's name and photo.

The police initially thought of appealing the court's decision, but after examining the investigation file they gave it up due to administrative difficulty.

A source close to the details said that the publication of the suspect's name would not advance the investigation, and therefore there is no legal basis to file an appeal to the district court.

Dozens of protesters demand to publish the name of the suspect in the attempted murder of his wife in Mitzpe Ramon

A police spokesman said at the hearing, however, that her position is that the public has a right to know, "that the publication will lead to more violent victims in the area having the courage to complain. Publishing the suspect's name will not hurt the investigation." We spoke with the complainant. The state will know. "

However, the judge accepted the suspect's position, and at the end of the hearing banned the publication of his name.

"Although evidence has been gathered that links and even complicates the respondent with the offenses of attempted murder and malicious injury that caused serious injuries, the publication of his name does not include the respondent's loot to establish and advance the public interest and therefore the court does not allow the respondent's name."

Dozens of protesters across the country

Dozens of people are protesting across the country today in protest of a ban on publishing the man's name.

The protests, which are held under the name "Demonstration of rage - because rapists and murderers are more important to the justice system," take place in Jerusalem, Carmiel, Tel Aviv, Beer Sheva and Haifa.

The protest gained momentum due in part to a network storm, in which various figures and organizations against violence against women published angry posts and tweets criticizing Judge Amorai's decision.

The "Political Calls" organization, which encourages feminist media on the Internet, wrote on Facebook that the judge protects a violent and dangerous person from the public - "instead of protecting the public from it."

The WIZO organization also strongly condemned the judge's decision, saying that the one who needed the court's protection was the victim. This judge, whose professional performance has been linked to many complaints over the past decade.

His decision reinforces the fear that the judge is not worthy to engage in such a case. "
