Claudia Webbe, MP for Leicester East (central England), has been charged with harassment against a woman, said the Crown Prosecution Service, which is responsible for prosecution in the United Kingdom, which explained that it had taken the decision after receiving elements of the London Metropolitan Police.
The 55-year-old MP claimed her innocence in a press release.
“
I am innocent of any wrongdoing and can't wait to prove it in court.
I will vigorously defend myself against these allegations.
», Said Claudia Webbe.
She is due to appear on November 11 in Westminster Magistrates Court in London.
The facts allegedly occurred between September 1, 2018 and April 26, 2020. She was suspended from the party following the indictment, several British media reported.
A spokesperson for the Labor Party declined to confirm the suspension, saying it "
would not be appropriate to comment on an ongoing case
".
Elected MP in the last legislative elections in December, Claudia Webbe is to the left of her party.
Prior to joining the House of Commons, the lower house of parliament, she had been a councilor in Islington, a district in north London.
She was also political adviser to Ken Livingstone, when he was mayor of London.
