The Be'er Sheva District Court today (Tuesday) heard an appeal against the decision of the Peace House in the city to leave the name of the suspect in the attempted murder of his wife, Shira Moshe, and her serious injury in front of their daughter in Mitzpe Ramon about two weeks ago.

The appeal was filed by Walla!

NEWS and other media, after the police decided to give it up due to administrative difficulty.

A source close to the details said that the publication of the suspect's name would not advance the investigation, and therefore there is no legal basis to file an appeal to the district court.

The hearing on the appeal takes place against the background of a nationwide wave of protests against Judge George Amorai's decision last week to ban the publication of the suspect's name, contrary to the recommendation of the police representative at the hearing.

So, the suspect in stabbing his wife argued in court that the case should be thoroughly investigated before the publication of his name, as this would ruin his career.

Accused the woman's family of "instinct for revenge."

Suspected of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm to his wife

"This case should first be thoroughly examined in great detail and only after that pay attention to the publication," he said at the hearing.

"The easiest thing is to ruin a 45-year career and reputation. I'm a little surprised at what this longing to come and publish is. There will always be time to come and publish it. Obviously this is not the time right now."

The suspect claimed that the publication of the name would cause frustration for his parents and even accused the woman's family of "revenge" against him.

"Her family can find a way to advertise. Their vengeful instinct is currently something understandable. But let's stop it for now."

Thus, at the end of the hearing, Judge Amorai ruled that his name would not be published at this stage.

"The investigation is ongoing, and although evidence has been gathered that links and even complicates the suspect with attempted murder and malicious injury that caused serious injuries, the publication of the suspect's name does not at this stage contribute to establishing and advancing public interest," the decision said.

The decision sparked a storm on the net, provoking angry reactions against Judge Amorai.

The "Political Calls" organization, which encourages feminist media on the Internet, wrote on Facebook at the time that "the judge protects a violent and dangerous person from the public - instead of protecting the public from it."

The WIZO organization also strongly condemned the judge's decision, saying that the one who needed the court's protection was the victim. That is, his professional performance has been linked to many complaints over the past decade.

His decision reinforces the fear that the judge is not worthy to engage in such a case. "

The storm surrounding the judge's decision reached a climax yesterday, when it led to a series of protests around the country held under the name "Demonstration of rage - because rapists and murderers are more important to the justice system."

The demonstrations took place in Jerusalem, Carmiel, Tel Aviv, Beer Sheva and Haifa, and a finger was pointed directly at the judge, along with a demand for the trial of the suspect.

The incident took place on Friday about two weeks ago, and in the end the man was arrested on suspicion of severely assaulting his wife in the southern city.

The police located the woman lying on the floor and suffering from serious injuries and in a serious condition, but since then her condition has improved.

Police said the tools used in the attack were apparently a knife and a rolling pin.

In the past, in 2019, there was already a report of domestic violence between the couple, which was then being handled in Tel Aviv.
