A special Corona early warning system is currently sounding the alarm, as the contact index has recently risen sharply.
In this way, a second wave of infections could be favored.
The Berlin
early warning system
"CovMap" triggers for the first time since the lockdown.
The number of
social contacts
increased sharply in September.
That makes a second wave in
Germany
more likely.
Berlin -
In cooperation with the company Net Check and the Hasso Plattner Institute, the
Berlin Charité
has developed an early warning system to identify clusters in which the
corona virus is
particularly concentrated.
The project is called
"CovMap"
and is basically an information map on which you can read the individual counties - a
weather map for Corona
.
Now the system has
sounded the alarm
for the first time since the contact restrictions in the spring
, as
reported by
Focus.de
.
The so-called
contact index
is used to evaluate how many social contacts individual people have.
According to the portal,
this index rose sharply in mid-September and thus the risk of a potential
second corona wave
* increased.
Contact index & supercontacters: This is currently particularly risky for the Corona case numbers
This index is calculated by
evaluating
anonymized
GPS data
from smartphone users.
The contact behavior of the people is then reconstructed from this and the probability of an
impending outbreak
calculated.
The app users voluntarily consent to their data being used.
According to the developers, so-called
supercontacters
, i.e. people who have a lot of social contacts, are particularly relevant
for the latest trends
.
In this context, they could become
super spreaders
, which are responsible for a large number of
new infections with the coronavirus
*.
If we spend a lot of time in rooms, the risk of aerosols infecting us with the #coronavirus increases.
We can protect ourselves with AHA + L. That means: distance, hygiene, everyday mask and ventilation.

Is the second wave coming now?
Increased R-value forecast based on contact index
The researchers who supervise the project therefore assume that there will be more infections in the next two weeks and calculate that the
R-value
* will rise to 1.3.
The
Robert Koch Institute
(RKI) currently outputs a lower value.
One of the findings of the scientists seems to be striking to them: The contact index calculated by them is said to have
skyrocketed,
especially during the soccer games of the
Bundesliga
.
