(CNN Spanish) -

When we wear masks or masks, we face a new reality.

And your skin?

Do you know how we should take care of our skin and put on makeup?

From my own experience, I have noticed that since the confinement for COVID-19 began, we do not take care of our skin with the same routines as before, and the tendency is to spend less time on what we used to do regularly.

And the results are logical problems of this "new normal."

The complexion

Using the mask for long hours clogs the pores, not allowing the skin to "breathe" naturally.

This can dull your skin and in some cases cause breakouts or breakouts.

The solution?

As New York dermatologist Dr. Hadley King told CNN.com, in addition to not wearing too-tight masks that mark the skin, it is important to take care of it with products that gently “calm” it, like some found in pharmacies.

All this - and as hygiene is vital - after cleansing the skin with a mild product.

There are also products and regimens to treat acne that we should continue to use as we did before.

The use of a moisturizer should be the next step, although never too greasy, but of a light texture, or preferably free of fat or oils - since the mask or chinstrap produces heat and the moisturizer stops helping us and can irritate the skin.

A non-greasy moisturizing lotion is best.

Leave the most intense care of your skin (serum or serum, eye cream and night cream) -for the end of the day, when you take off the mask and they can penetrate better.

And remember to use the eye cream several hours before going to sleep - it can cause puffiness or allergies in some people.

A healthy diet (fruits, vegetables, proteins without added fats, grains, antioxidant foods such as citrus fruits, etc.) are also essential to take care of our skin when we use masks or masks - just like the refreshing use of aloe vera in lotions or creams.

The makeup

Under a mask, makeup should be minimal - and focused mostly on the eyes.

Use a very light makeup base, without grease and that does not stain (if possible) your mask.

Also use a very light concealer for dark circles, which you can fix with a super-thin layer of colorless, translucent powder, so that the concealer stays fixed and does not stain your mask.

But all this applied with great care and minimalism.

Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation is famous for not staining or transferring to fabrics (many brides wear it to their wedding) - or you can use a water-based foundation in very little amount, followed by translucent powders.

In the eyes - your focal point on the face when using a mask - use discreet makeup and avoid heavy or thick “mascara”.

A waterproof kohl eyeliner pencil (one that doesn't evaporate or melt in heat) is a good idea, as is a light shadow under the brows to "lift" your eyes.

Avoid pearly colors -or too bright- although at night you can use a shadow with the soft "shimmer" that the lighter and more transparent ones have.

According to the advice of the super famous make-up artist Vincent Oquendo, the heavily made-up eyes look more now with the almost forced use of the mask due to the pandemic.

And Oquendo is a master of beauty.

One last tip?

Carry a lipstick in your bag for when - at a good social distance - you take off your mask and you can finally show your mouth!
